Let’s begin by taking out the current draft of our academic essay and turning it over. On the back I want you to summarize for me how the page you have added to this draft either improves up, or otherwise expands, the argument you have been making.

Now that we have thought about the direction that are papers are going in, I’d like you to get into groups and talk about how you envision the conclusion of your paper. What is it that you hope to have proved or otherwise explained by the time the reader gets to the end of your conclusion?

Okay, now let’s turn our attention to Jane Eyre:
We are going to break into individual groups, and each group is going to be charged with the following:
Identify a scene or event with the chapter that connects to a larger theme or motif of the book as a whole, and once you have done that, come up with a statement that articulates how this theme or motif connects to the major ideas we have considered over the past semester.
Finish draft of paper with you for Monday, bring three copies to class.
